What is Integers?

 

Integer, whole-valued positive or negative number or 0. The integers are generated from the set of counting numbers 1, 2, 3,… and the operation of subtraction. When a counting number is subtracted from itself, the result is zero.

  • The collection of numbers ...., -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, … is called integers.

  • -1, -2, -3, – 4, … called negative numbers are negative integers. 

  •  1, 2, 3, 4, … called positive numbers are positive integers.

  •  0 is simply an integer, neither positive nor negative.

Addition of Integers

  •  To add two positive integers, add them and put the positive sign.

  •  To add two negative integers, add them and put the negative sign.

  • To add two integers, one positive and the other negative, subtract them and put the sign of the bigger integer.
